Isaac S. Abbott Died Suddenly
Isaac Spencer Abbott of Conesville died suddenly at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 1964 at the L. D. Buser farm near Conesville. Death caused by a heart attack to the man who had served as mayor of Conesville over a period of 27 years. He was 70 years, 8 months and 7 days of age.
The son of Isaac S. and Nancy Settlemire Abbott, he was born February 14, 1894 in Muscatine and was a life long resident of Conesville. He married Flora Marks on August 28, 1913 who preceded him in death December 5, 1956. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Lucille, who died October 22, 1921. He was united in marriage to Rachael Holladay on May 31, 1959.
Survivors include his wife: three sons, Rex of Des Moines, Donald of Winfield and Harold of Alhambra, California; two stepsons, James and Gaylord Holladay and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Wilma Schick and Mrs. Dorothy Benninger all of Davenport; four brothers, Roy of Bradenton, Florida, Arthur of Winfield, Iowa, Harry of Conesville and Orville of East Lansing, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Zula) Murray of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Conesville Methodist Church Saturday October 24 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mervin Ceynar officiating. Mrs. Kenneth Hill was organist and accompanied Mrs. Kenneth Carrell who sang 'Beyond the Sunset'.
Casketbearers were Paul Lutz, Richard Buser, John Coffin, Kenneth Smith, Melvin Grim and Frank Barnhart. Burial was in the Conesville cemetery with the Stacy Funeral Home in charge.
