BURIED 24th JANUARY 1929 in ST. MICHEAL'S (CATHOLIC) CEMETERY, SPRINGFIELD, MA. - Francois Xavier Poirier aka Oliver Peach was born in a rural farming community, Constable, Franklin County, New York on 2nd July 1859 and baptized 24th July 1859 in St. Joseph's Church, Malone, Franklin County, New York. He was the youngest of nine known children born to Francois Xavier Poirier, Sr. aka Peach and Cleophee Clare nee Patenaude aka Clara or Cluffy who are also buried in this cemetery, along with many other family members. He was the first member of his family to move to Springfield for job opportunities with other family members following soon after. As a farm laborer on a NY farm, he met and married Emma Deroche, Desrosiers aka Durocher who was also working as a domestic on the same farm. They returned to St. Anicet, Huntington, Quebec to marry among many family members on the 19th October 1880. The couple returned after the marriage ceremony to Constable, NY area and started their family of 11 children. By 1889 they can be found in Springfield, Massachusetts. Circa 1850 the French Canadian surname of Poirier was altered to several versions (Fox, Perry, Pare) but eventually settled on the surname "Peach" by circa 1900. Public records of the families in New York and Massachusetts can be located under the surname "Peach", but church records of birth/baptism/marriage/death in both states can be found recorded under their original French surname "Poirier".
