When Augustus was eighteen, both of his parents died with in six days of each other; leaving the Walton children under the care of his mother's brother.
Augustus was educated at Richmond Academy and he attended Franklin College (now University of Georgia). In 1802, Augustus met and married Martha "Sallie" Williams of Washington, Georgia. They emigrated west through Alabama to Hinds County, Mississippi in the early 1820's. Along the way, they had seven children: Thomas Zachariah, George Williams, Mary, Garland, Sarah Ann, John and Edward Augustus.
Augustus George Walton departed this life in 1835 at the age of 53 years old.
