He was born July 21, 1926 in Murray, Utah to Alvah and Elma Perry Hampton. He married Lila A. Wood on January 26, 1948 and was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS church. He enjoyed being a home teacher, worked with the scouts for many years, secretary and first assistant in the High Priest Quorum. He also did genealogical name extraction for several years. Served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.Children were his first love and he adored all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed working with the swim team at Olympus High and the children at David Gourley Elementary in Granite School District.
Survived by wife, Murray; sons and daughters, Richard (Debra) Hampton, Kearns; Linda (Dennis) Green, SLC; Don (Valerie) Hampton, Murray; Barbara (Jim) Larsen, West Jordan; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Betty Yoak and Bob Hampton, Orem; Ray (Lavonne) Hampton, Ft. Worth, TX; Janet (Melvin) Anderson, Monroe, Utah. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and one brother, H. Wayne Hampton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 12, 1998, 11 a.m., Murray 11th Ward, 5750 So. Nena Way (10 West), Murray. Friends may call Tuesday 6 - 8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
