Martha Rahel was the first wife of my great grandfather Phillip A. Vaughn. They traveled to Joplin, Missouri with his sister, Mary Ann Vaughn Calvert and her family in the early spring of 1876. Phillip & Martha married in May of 1876 in Joplin, Missouri.

She died in October 1877 probably of consumption or complications due to childbirth. Family legend says he brought her home across her horse and buried her in this cemetery in Clarksville near her family. There are several broken stones in the older section of this cemetery where other family members are buried, likely one of those stones is her stone, if she is in fact, there.
