[Ron Yancey: ] Scotty was killed in an aircraft accident at Las Vegas on January 23, 1962. The aircraft was a Cessna 195. The pilot, age 47, had 363 total flight hours, 5 of them at night, and as I understood it from Wyora, they were testing some newly-installed radio equipment.....I'm not sure if it was a radio which is used as an aid to approach the airport...........in any case, the accident report reads that "the aircraft struck the upper structure of a 55-foot high high voltage transmission pole. The pole was located about 1 mile from the approach end of the runway........pictures show the aircraft so damaged that no one could have survived the impact.
