HAYS — Velma M. Kober, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Good Samaritan Center of Hays. She was born March 9, 1913, in rural Bison, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Appel Schwindt. Mrs. Kober was a two-year resident of Hays, moving there from La Crosse, where she had been a resident since 1973. She was a homemaker. She married William Charles Kober on Aug. 30, 1938, in Greely, Colo. Mrs. Kober loved to cook, bake, sew, and read. She especially enjoyed family gatherings.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith K. Case and her husband, Roy L. Case of Hays; two grandchildren, Tonya Norton of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nicholas "Nick" Case of Carlsbad, N.M.; three great-grandchildren, Camden Case, and Shae Case, both of Carlsbad, N.M., and Joshua Case of Hays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Elizabeth Appel Schwindt; her husband, William Charles Kober on June 6, 1978; one brother, Leon "Ab" Schwindt; and three sisters, Louella Reissing, Leola Shank, and Leona Schwindt.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at the Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in La Crosse, with the Rev. Arlyn Thielenhaus officiating. Burial will be at the La Crosse City Cemetery in La Crosse. Memorials may be made to Central Rush County EMS.
