On July 19, 1967 a Cessna 310 carrying three people and a Boeing 727-100 carrying 79 people collided in mid air over Hendersonville, North Carolina. The smaller plane was seven miles off course when the they collided at 6000 feet. The left wing of the smaller plane pierced the 727 just behind the cockpit killing all on board both planes. The doomed planes missed 150 children at a summer camp by 50 yards. On July 19, 2004 a memorial was dedicated to those who lost their lives 37 years before.
