D.S. Bear was born in Westmoreland county, Penn., Dec. 23, 1834, and died Jan. 22, 1911, at the age of 76 years and 29 days. In 1852 he united with the Presbyterian church at Freeport, Ill., and continued his membership in that church until 1876, when he united with the United Bretheren church of Toledo, and has ever since been a faithful member. In 1856, he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Carsteter, to which union were born nine children of whom five are living; Mary Houdyshell of Tama; Edward E., of Tomah, Wisconsin; Lewis E., of McCracken, Kansas; James R. and Frank E., of Toledo. The funeral services were held in the Rose Hill church, conducted by Rev. Roscoe Sires. Music was furnished by Miss Maysie Green and Messrs. F.G. Haworth and H.P. Giger. The pallbearers were Martin Mericle, H. Christiansen, A.B. Jones, O.C. Rider, Elmer Cole, and Jense Larencen. Interment was in Rose Hll Cemetery.
