St George Baron Le Poer CROZIER and Isabella "Bella" née DEACON CROZIER.

St George B CROZIER, as he was commonly referred, was the son of John CROZIER, himself from a Scottish border family
in the vicinity of Liddesdale (district), the west part of Roxburgshire county, Scotland. John CROZIER went to Ireland with a regiment of Scottish Fencibles (volunteer militia, often farmer/tenants, used within garrisons and patrols to release regular army for battle), at the time of the "Irish Rebellion", May-Sept 1798. John CROZIER subsequently
settled there.


British military musician, composer and bandmaster - deployed Canada (1830s/40s in Toronto/Belleville-Trenton-Kingston areas): "He served as bandmaster of the 93rd Highlanders Regiment, stationed at Fort York (Upper Canada) from 1838 to 1844."

Ireland(1846),

By the 1860s, ... Settled in Belleville... his home for rest of his life from which base he taught music and directed performances from Belleville to Toronto

The 1868-69 Directory of Hastings County lists the following (pp 71-72):
Volunteer Militia - 15th Battalion Infantry, H.Q. Belleville
Quarter Master. - Lieut. Geo. B CROZIER
Company No. 5. - L.N.F. CROZIER, Captain

The same directory lists Albert College (a university) in Belleville (pp 75-76) and includes in its faculty "St. Geo. B. Crozier Professor of Music."
Further, in the List of Belleville Residents (pg 118):
Crozier, St. George B., professor of music at Albert University, Belleville and Ontario College, Picton, residence music teacher, South side of Hotel Street.
Crozier, John A. G., clerk Crown Timber Office.
Crozier, L. N. F., clerk Registry office.


On 30 June 1870, at the Commencement of Georgetown University, Washington D.C., the degree of Doctor of Music (Mus Doc) was conferred on him.

St George B CROZIER died in Belleville and is buried there.

Four sons - one, Baron St George Augustus, died from cholera in 1850, age 6yrs 4 mos while stationed in Malta.

"His brother Thomas Charles CROZIER was active in Toronto in the 1840s as bandmaster
Bandmaster 81st Regiment - the 81 Regiment departed Toronto for Kingston aboard the Cherokee [G&M 18 Aug 1847, Page 3, Cols 1 and 2)]

"His brother, Thomas Charles Crozier, was the bandmaster of
the 81st Regiment of Foot, which served at Fort York from
1846 to 1847. ... T.C. Crozier also settled in Belleville later in life."

and composer of 'Le songe de Crozier' (Nordheimer 1846) and 'Les jolies filles du Canada' (Nordheimer 1848)."

St George's mother's grandfather was Thomas DEACON, born in Tipperary, Ireland.

His obituary appeared in the Belleville, Ontario Weekly Intelligencer on 24 Nov 1892.
