PUTNAM [Windham Co.]—Alice M. Benoit, 95, formerly of South Main Street, died on Sunday morning [Dec 1] at Day Kimball Hospital, following an illness. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at Saint Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street in Putnam. Burial follows in Saint Mary Cemetery. Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church Street in Putnam is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Pomfret Landing on September 4, 1907, a daughter of the late Eugene and Sarah O'Malley Alvord. Mrs. Benoit was the wife of Edward A. Benoit, whom she married on April 26, 1941 in Saint Mary Church in Putnam. A graduate of Putnam High School, Mrs. Benoit was employed for many years maintaining the business office of Pomfret School. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Buick Garage in Putnam. A communicant of Saint Mary Church in Putnam, she served as president for over 20 years for the League of Catholic Women and was very involved in the parish's Circle of Fun.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons, Peter Benoit of Putnam and Paul Benoit of Detroit, MI, two daughters, Margaret Beturne of Hampton, MA and Martha Baril of Coventry, RI, a brother, James Alvord of Putnam, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Holly and one son, Joseph Benoit.
