Isabella married James Gemmill on March 21, 1862 at Almonte, a nearby Lanark County town. They welcomed seven children to their Almonte home, while James worked at one of the woolen mills on the Mississippi River. In the 1890s, the Gemmill family lived in Carleton Place.
After her husband passed in 1895, Isabella lived in Smiths Falls with her son William and his young family. Then by 1911 Isabella resided with her daughter May in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Isabella died there on October 23, 1918, aged 74.
