Joel L. Coffey, 92, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away June 10, 2012, at his home in Madill. He was born on November 21, 1919, to the late Joel William Leonard Coffey and Dessie Chester Coffey in Bromide, Oklahoma. Joel was raised in Bromide and later moved to Fredrick, Oklahoma. In 1952, he moved to Ardmore and later moved to Madill where he lived the rest of his life. Joel married Allene Donoho on November 12, 1950, in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2004. Joel was a cutting horse trainer, lifetime breeder of Treeing Walker Coondogs. He also was a lifetime member Treeing Walker Breeders, Fanciers and the NRA.
He is survived by his children, Jolene Coffey, Madill, Oklahoma, and Charles Dunlap and wife, Barbara, Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amie Smith, Madill, Oklahoma, and Beth Keenan and husband, Sean, Collegeville, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Victoria, Andrew and Joelie; and many nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents; wife; all his siblings; his favorite horse; and lots of really good coon hounds.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Watts Funeral Home, Madill, Okla.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Nelda Cemetery, Ardmore, Oklahoma.
