Helen A Bashaw, 94, Orofino

Helen A Bashaw went to be with the Lord Friday, June 1, 2012 at the age of 94.

Helen was born to Soloman and Catherine Burright on Sept. 16, 1917 in Gravity, IA and lived there on a farm throughout her schooling.

After graduating from Gravity High School, she attended Wesley Hospital School of Nursing from 1935-1941.

After working two years in private duty nursing, she joined the Army Nurse Corp and was stationed at Camp Hale in Colorado for almost a year. From there she was sent to General Hospital at Clinton, IA and from there she was sent overseas in March of 1944 to Oxford England. The 91st General occupied the Churchill Hospital outside of Oxford until the end of the war and then the unit moved to Liege, Belgium. Helen came back to the United States on the converted luxury cruise liner "West Point". She was discharged at Ft. Des Moines, IA as a 1st Lt. in Dec 1945.

Helen married Elton Bashaw on Sept. 19, 1946 and lived in the Grangemont area until 1998 when they moved closer to Orofino. They adopted a son, Kenneth Dale, in 1954. Helen and Elton were married 59 ½ years before Elton's death in 2006.

Helen was active in the Grangemont Sunday School for 20 years and attended the Orofino Community Church for many years. She belonged to the Grangemont Homemakers Club. The club was active in quilt making. Helen also worked on the election board for several years and enjoyed reading, crocheting, and gardening.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Dale Bashaw, of Orofino, ID; one sister, Dorothy Bashaw, of Orofino; one brother, Wayne Burright, of Omaha NE; three step-children; eight step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret and Fern, and her brothers, Allen and Don Burright.

Services will be Monday, June 11 at 10 a.m. at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino.

Burial will follow at Weseman Cemetery on Grangemont Road.

Viewing will be Thursday, June 7 at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel from 1-3:30 p.m.
