Mrs Sophia Chainey, 78, of 183 Cass St, widow of Frederick C Chainey, died this morning in Portsmouth Hospital.
She was born in Dover, on Jan 11, 1888, the daughter of the late Richard and Sophia (Williamson) Ford. She has resided in Portsmouth since 1905, and was a communicant of St John's Church and a member of the Golden Agers Club.
She is survived by one son, Rudluff E Chainey of Portsmouth, a daughter, Mrs Thelma Tully of Portsmouth; a brother James Ford of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs Oscar DeWease of Camden, NH, and Mrs Robert Nobel of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs F C Chainey - Funeral services for Mrs Sophia (Ford) Chainey, 78, of 183 Cass St, widow of Frederick C Chainey, were held at Buckminster Chapel, Saturday.
The Rev Charles W Hodgins, rector of St John's Episcopal Church conducted the services.
Included in the attendance were many members of the church, members of the Golden Age Club, and the Rev Charles Webb of St John's Church.
Burial was in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover with committal by the Rev Mr Hodgins.
Bearers were Rudluff C Chainey Jr, Frederick C Chainey, Richard E Tully and Edward C Tully.
