Mrs. Mahala Cooper Hayslip, daughter of John and Mary Grooms Cooper, was born in the Poplar Ridge Community April 78, 1876 and died September 9, 1955. She married John C Hayslip on November 6, 1893 and they had three children. One son, Norval, of Losgatos, California; two daughters, Mrs. Velma, Jackson, Mattewan, West Virginia, and Mrs. Lola Tucker, who died 12 years ago. She joined the Beasley Fork Christian Union Church at the age of 17 and retained her membership therein. Her husband died 14 years ago. Other survivors are seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and the following; one brother, Mansil Coooper; seven sisters, Mrs. Amanda Cole, Mrs. Anna Baldwin, Mrs. Rebecca Miller, Mrs. Clara Malone, Mrs. Neoma Trefz, Mrs. Verda McHenry and Mrs. Ruth Crawford, all of West Union. Two sisters Etha and Mrs. Mariah Hayslip are deceased.
