Mrs. Hannah Downs died Monday in the family home in Shelbyville. She had been in a critical condition for some time but expressed a strong wish to live until her soldier son, Lieutenant Harry L. Downs returned from France. The young man landed with the 32nd division a week ago and reached her bedside.

Mrs. Downs, who was the wife of W. H. Downs, was born near Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio, June 18, 1850. When she was 18 years old she came to Shelbyville with her parents, and Dec. 28, 1876, she married William Henry Downs.

Eight children born to them survive the mother. They are Mrs. Anna Augustine, William J. Downs, Mrs. Vida Venters, Mrs. Georgia Hudson, Harry Downs, Miss Dessie Downs, all of whom live in Shelbyville; John Downs of Elvin, Mo., and Lloyd Downs of Hillsboro. There are beside a number of brothers and sisters living. Mrs. Downs was a member of the Christian Church of Shelbyville.
