Albert was the fifth of 12 children born to Hiram and Sarah Amanda Gilmore Woodruff, pioneer settlers in Kansas. At age 22, he married Caroline "Carrie" Huscher on 6 Oct 1888 in Cloud County. The couple moved to California for a short time where their first two children were born, but the family returned to Cloud County and remained there for many years - appearing on the 1895 Kansas state census in Nelson Township (family 14); the 1900 federal census in Lincoln Township (ED 22; Pg 4-A; Family 68), the 1905 state census in Aurora Township (Family 69), and the 1910 federal census (ED 31; Pg 10-A; Family 121) & 1915 state census (Family 5) in Concordia.

He worked as a farmer for many years but left farming by 1910 to work for the telephone company, where several of his and Carrie's children worked. February of 1920 found the couple with 5 of their children living in Maricopa County, Arizona (ED 40; Pg 9-B; Family 188), where Albert was again farming. By the 1930 federal census (ED 33; Pg 13-B; Family 352), Albert at age 64 was working as a janitor in a public library. He and Carrie were living in Riverside, California, along with 2 of their sons, Seth, who was apparently handicapped, and Benjamin ("Benny"); however they soon moved to Boise, Idaho, where Albert died.
