John was the son of Junius Quincy and Elizabeth (Whitener) Rowe. John first wife was Virgie Shuford, they were married in 1897, she died about 1921. He married Mary Lou Arndt in 1923 and they had twin daughters: Johnsie Geraldine and Mary Josephine.

Taken Suddenly

Mr. John M. Rowe, 66, Catawba county farmer, died suddenly Saturday afternoon at his home. He suffered a heart attack a short time after a son arrived from the west for a visit.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from Concord Methodist church, Catawba county, with the pastor, Rev. A. G. Lackey, in charge. Interment was in the family plot in the church cemetery.
A native of Catawba county, Mr. Rowe was a son of James Quincy Rowe and Elizabeth Whitener Rowe. he was a steward in the Concord Methodist church and teacher in the Sunday school for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Mary Lou Arndt, four sons, Frank J. Rowe of Jennie, Ark.; T. C. Rowe of Newport News, Va.; J. M. Rowe of Hickory; Shuford M. Rowe, of Norfolk, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. L. Jenkins of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. R. D. Drum of Lenoir; Mrs. Coite Martin, of Hickory; and Mrs. Ralph Mooper, of Portsmouth, Va.
