A distraught South Allentown woman who set herself aflame in a gasoline-soaked carpet Sept. 1 died yesterday from the burns.

Kathryn M. Bachert, 54, made the suicide attempt in the garage at her 975 W. Wyoming St. home. Once on fire, she ran to her yard, and the fire burned itself out.

Lehigh County Coroner Wayne Snyder ruled the death a suicide from second- and third-degree burns and complications. She died at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.

Bachert was the wife of Charles J. Bachert Sr.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Kathryn M. (Smith) Manwiller.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Diane Glick and Kris Eichman, both of Fogelsville; a son, Charles J. Jr. of Hatfield; a sister, Gloria, wife of Hugh Urban of Bon Air, Va.; three brothers, John of Whitehall Township, Harry of Allentown and James of Fogelsville; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William R.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Bachman Funeral Home, 1030 Walnut St., Allentown. There are no calling hours.
