Andrew J. Bednarz, age 91 passed away on May 30, 2012 at the Willimansett East Nursing Home. He was born on Dec 12, 1920 in Chicopee to the late Stanley and Catherine (Pietras) Bednarz. He was a communicate of Holy Name Church the former Assumption Church. He leaves his loving wife of 65 years Doris (Vandal) Bednarz; two daughters Diane Bednarz of Chicopee and Susan Kennison and her husband Thomas of Las Vegas; three grandchildren Daniel, Matthew and Thomas Jr. Kennison and one great grandchild Emily Kennison. He was predeceased by three brothers John, Ben and Max and four sisters Mary, Peggy, Carrie and Stella. Andrew helped out at the Assumption Church as an usher and also was a little league coach for various youth teams in the area. He was a former member of the Tigers AC Club. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and loved to tend to his garden especially his tomato plants. The family would also like to give a special thanks to all the staff at the Willimansett East Nursing Home for all their tremendous care while Andrew was there. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday June 4, 2012 at 8:45 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Church the former Assumption Church with burial to follow with Military Honors in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday June 3, 2012 from 2 5 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Andrews name to the Willimansett Center East, Activities Fund, 11 St Anthony St. Chicopee, AM 01013.
