LaVanche Christian Hursh, 89, of Arbuckle died February 22, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Hospital in Woodland.
She attended Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland, graduated from Pierce High School and attended Chico State College, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Sorority.
She and her late husband Vernon Hursh started Christian and Hursh Fertilizer and Chemical in Arbuckle.
She was a member of Holy Cross Altar Society, Colusi County Historical Society, Pierce Youth Foundation, and was a charter member of the Colusa Hospital Pink Ladies Auxiliary and the Arbuckle Revitalization Committee.
For 30 years she served as chairwoman of the Arbuckle Community Cancer [as written] and volunteered with the blood bank in Arbuckle; was an associate member of the Children's Home Society; and a co-president of the Arbuckle Women's Club.
She was named Pierce High School Booster of the Year in 1992 and later received the school's Golden Bear Award.
Survivors include a son, Gary C. Hursh of Nevada City, three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
