Son of J.F. and Nancy
History as told by his family, states that Edley had epilepsy. He went into the pasture to round up a cow, he had an attack of convulsion by a stream which he either drown or died by the convulsion attack. It is thought that he was still living with the Beaty family at the time of his death. Edley is buried in the Spring Chapel Cemetery where many of the descendants of Joel Atkinson are buried. The monument of Edley must have been placed by his younger brother, Jim, as it has the last name of Adkerson. This is the last name that Jim used. The Joel Atkinson descendants were Union in the Civil War while Edley and Jim's father, James Fentress served in the Confederate Cavalry. Since the Springs Chapel Cemetery is located in the southern part of Fentress County, it believed that Jim was attempted to get away from his father service in the Confederate Cavalry since Fentress County was a Union county. Nancy's parents were Union leaning during the Civil War.
Edley 3 brothers used three differant last name because of their father served in the Confederate Cavalry:

There were 3 brothers who used 3 different last names.
Dudley Adkins (53857179) buried in Fentress County, TN
Thomas P Atkinson, (25133870)buried in Washita County, OK
James Fentress(Jim)Adkerson(Jr) (3543793)buried in Beckham County. OK
