In the 1900 U.S. Census, widow Mary Preston, 51, born November 1848 in Canada, parents born Ireland, was living on Spring Street, Calais, Maine, with son and cotton factory weaver Joseph, 22, born May 1878, born Maine, parents born Canada; leather factory worker and daughter Lizzie, 25, born November 1874 in Maine, parents born Maine; boarder and factory worker Edward Worcester, can't read the age, born Maine; boarder and cotton weaver Jessie Stevenson, 22, born May 1877 in Canada, parents born Canada; and boarder Florence C. Coffron, at school, 19, born March 1881 in Maine, parents born Maine.
Three out of Mary Preston's four children were still living.

In he 1880 U.S. Census, farmer Jesse Stephenson, 59, born Maine, father born Maine, mother born Canada, was living in Alexander, Maine, with Sabrina, 55, born Maine, father born Maine, mother born Canada; cotton mill worker Elizabeth, 31; school teacher John C.F., 23;laborer Edgar O., 21; cotton mill worker Mary, 18; and Alice A., 12, all born in Maine; nephew Amerias Stephenson, 13, born Maine, father born Maine, mother born Canada; and nephew (sic) Jesse F., 3, born Maine, father born Maine, mother born Canada.

Jessie F was the daughter of Dr James Ripley Stephenson of Alexander & Mary Caroline Hatfield of Nova Scotia. Jessie's mother died in 1879 when Jessie was 2 and she went to live with her father's brother Jesse Stephenson in Alexander, along with her brother Americus H Stephenson.


Her sister Mary E Lillian Stephenson is also buried in Calais cemetery.
