GREENVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. G.H. Collins, pioneer club woman and church worker, who died early Monday morning at a Fort Worth hospital, were held at 2:30 p.m. today at the James-Coker-Peters Funeral Chapel.
The Rev. Neal T. Jones, pastor of First Baptist Church conducted the services. Burial was made in East Mount cemetery.
Pallbearers were J.F. Adkisson, Shelby Sinclair, J.A. Norton, Bill Polk, Jim Jones, Peyton Bryan and Harold Clayton, Greeenville and Raymond Gee, Fort Worth.
Names as honorary pallbearers were officers and directors of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Mrs. Collins was born in Ouachita Parish, La., the daughter of the Rev. James H. Petty (sic) and Euphemia Salsbury Petty (sic). Her mother was a native of England. In 1891 she was married to G.H. Collins, founder of the Collins Brothers Furniture Company, and they continued to make Greenville their home. Both were prominently identified with the civic, religious and cultural advancement in Greenville.
In "Who's Who of the Women of Texas" the biographical sketch relates the numerous activities of Mrs. Collins, including the club work both in the district and state and the Northeast District of the Baptist Women Mission Workers. In each of these organizations she had held the chair of president and had served on numerous committees.
Her knowledge of Parlimentary Law took her to Chautauqua, New York, for many summers, where she was a member of the Woman's Club and the Parliamentary Law Club. Other activities in which she was extensively engaged were with the United Daughters of Confederacy, Red Cross, Near East Relief and many others. Her home had been at 2400 Park Street since 1900.
Surviving are two sons, Tilford Collins, Greenville and Leighton Collins, New York City, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, J.H. Petty (sic), Ardmore, Okla. Among other relatives are Mr. and Mrs. James Luttrell, Arlington, Mrs. Chester Farris, Arlington, and Mrs. Will Moore, Fort Worth.
