Carroll is a son of James Riley and Susannah Caroline Eaton Cheek. James died in 1859, Dade County, MO, Susannah and children are listed in the 1860 Dade County, MO Census.

The gravestone has his birth year as 1853, the 1900 Census not only lists his age but also month and year of birth, September, 1849. His name may also be spelled Carroll.

Carroll married Jane Brown February 8, 1882, Dade County, MO.

In the 1900 Cedar County, MO Census I find Carl Cheek, age 51, and his wife Nancy J, age 49, married 18 years. They are the parents of 3 children, 2 living. Their sons William T (Troy), age 17, and Hoyt T (Truman), Age 16, also live at home. Carl (Carroll) is a blacksmith.

From the Greenfield Vedette, March 18, 1915 -- BONA -- Carroll Check died at his home in Oklahoma, March 10, of pneumonia. The remains were brought here on Friday and interred at Long Cemetery.
Carroll, and his family, and son Troy and family, moved from here to Oklahoma about six years ago. Troy's wife died about two years ago, and was brought to the Lindley Prairie Cemetery for burial. Carroll was about 60 years old. Brother Aaron Reynolds preached the funeral at the cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the sorrowing family and friends.
