Chilton Times January 30, 1875

Charlotte Sweet
Mrs. Charlotte Sweet in the sixty-second year of her age,
died, at Stockbridge, Calumet Co., Wis., January 12th 1875.
The deceased was the widow of the late Elder James Sweet and mother of the late Gen. B. J. Sweet and a sister of ex-Sheriff Newell, Lieut. Stewart Newell and Mrs. West of Chilton and Mrs. Nightengale of Fond du Lac.
She was born in Canada and was married in 1831, in Oneida County, N.Y. to Mr. Sweet.
In 1848 the family removed to Stockbridge in this county which place they made their permanent home and now husband and wife after life's fitful fever sleep side by side. And yet neither of them will ever be forgotten by the early settlers of Calumet. Both lived and acted as true Christians and if their example was more closely followed by modern church goers there would be a great many better men and women in this world.
The bereft relatives of the deceased have the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends but all of us should bear in mind that what is our loss is her eternal gain, and that it is the duty of all to submit to the Divine decree of Death which will overtake us all sooner or later. May all of us be as well prepared to meet our Maker at the Judgment Seat as the lamented Mrs. Sweet.
