‘Philharmonic Pianist Dies'
Joseph J. Skernolis, 19, 121 North Laurel street, a well-known pianist, died Wednesday at 10:45 p.m. at the St. Joseph Hospital, where he had been a patient the past three weeks. He was born in Hazleton, a son of Walter J. and the late Elizabeth (Racho) Skernolis, and was a graduate of the Hazleton high School Class of 1962. He was a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, and was the accompanist for the Philharmonic Society.
Surviving are his father, Walter J. Skernolis, and two brothers and a sister: Walter A., U. S. Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas; Elizabeth Ann, R. N., New York City; and Edmund J., at home. Also surviving is his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Racho, Hazleton.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Bonin Funeral Home, Second street entrance. Requiem high mass will be celebrated in St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Drums. Rev. Jackanich will conduct a service at the funeral home this evening at 7:30. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
