Fatal Accident (Iowegian 3 Nov 1903) A most deplorable accident occurred in INdependence township Friday at the home of W.E.L. Morlan, by which is 14 year old son, Elmer, lost his life. The boy was coming from the field with a load of corn, when the wagon tngue dropped down, frightening the horses; as they started to run, Elmer was thrown violently to the ground. It is thought his neck was broken by the fall. He lived less than an hour after the accident. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, November 1, conducted by Rev. Jones of Hedin. A long procession followed the body to its last resting place in the Jones Cemetery. Elmer was of a lovable disposition and his untimely death cast a gloom over the entire community. The bereaved parents and sisters have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their great sorrow.
