Herman E. Childes,69, 2106 East Lynn St, died yesterday afternoon at the Americana Nursing Home after an illness of the past two years.

A native of Anderson and lifelong resident here, he was associated for many years with the Childes Coal and Supply Company.

Mr Childes was a member of the Church of the Brethren and a past member of both the Elks and Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are the widow, Irene Childes; two daughters, Mrs Louise Hacker and Mrs Mary Catherine Lawson, both of Anderson; two brothers, Gola M. Childes and John L. Childes, both of Anderson; one step-granddaughter, Mrs Barbara Coon of Anderson; three step-greatgrandchldren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harold E. Rozelle Funeral Home by the Rev. Eldon M. Petry, pastor of the Church of the Brethren. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
