Mildred S.Dawson, 88, of Henrico passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dawson, Jr. and eldest son, R. Wayne Dawson. Mildred was a life member of Henrico Vol. Rescue Squad serving for 40 + years. She was active in Woman's Club of Varina, holding positions of President, Treasurer and Secretary. She was a devoted church member of Laurel Hill UMC . She was active in the Compassion Ministry for many years with her church. Mildred loved everybody and was a true servant to God with a deep love and affection for Him. Mildred enjoyed working the election polls for the Varina District. She was very active in the community and loved life to the fullest. Mildred will be missed by all. She is survived by her son, David (Specs the Clown) Dawson; "brother", Henry; "sister", Lucile; grandchildren, Mathew Wayne Dawson and Joseph Bradly Dawson and their mother and friend to Mildred, Phyllis Dawson; sister-in-laws, Katherine and her husband, Jimmy Salmons, Evelyn Dawson and her family and many friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 27 from 2 – 6 PM and Monday, May 28 from 12 – 8 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. Memorial Service will be held at Laurel Hill UMC on Tuesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
