Carl Clarence Davis was born March 1, 1919 in rural Lorimor to Della Alice (Ames) Davis and Elmer Chalmer Davis. He was educated in Lorimor School until he quit early to help support the family. Carl entered the U.S. Army in December 1942, serving until he was honorably discharged in November 1945. On July 26, 1944, Carl was united in marriage to Ruby Irene German in Osceola, Iowa. They lived in Ellston and Afton rural areas, and then moved to their farm south of Thayer in 1958. Carl was a farmer and raised cattle for many years until his retirement. He also worked for Union County for a short period of time and did carpentry work part-time.

Carl C. Davis, 91, of Thayer died Friday, November 5, 2010 at his home in Thayer.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean Ann Davis of Cary, N.C., Sheri (husband Jim) Shannon of Arispe, Janelle (husband Mark) Baker of Diagonal; one son, Jerry (wife Marlene) Davis of Fontanelle; two sisters-in-law, Donella Creveling of Ellston and Helen Davis of Lamar, Mo.; brother-in-law, Jack Wilkey of Ellston; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby in 2008; two brothers: Ore and Murel Davis, three sisters, Edna Welling, Lela Peterson and Lila Peterson, a sister-in-law: Marilyn Wilkey, and his grandson, Jason Shannon.
