Most likely murdered on 19 Oct 1982 in Tempe, Maricopa, AZ.

She left her apartment at 2141 East University Dr #56 and walked her two sisters Misti and Aleca to school. When her sisters returned home, Mindi was gone and the front door was open. There were no indications of a struggle, and Mindi's purse, identification and other belongings were left behind. The last person known to have seen Mindi was a clerk at the Circle K convenience store on the corner of E. University Dr and Price Rd; the clerk (a friend of Mindi's step-mother Pat) saw her make a phone call and leave. He stated that he witnessed someone driving a green and tan-colored station wagon drive into the parking lot, grab Mindi, and pull her into the vehicle. According to Mindi's half-sister Misti Ann Chambers, their father Allen drove such a green station wagon at the time. Mindi has never been heard from again.

Mindi's mother Mary Xenos Chambers was found dead in a bathtub on 7 May 1968 (her 24th birthday) in her apartment in Yonkers, NY; Mindi was two years old. Mindi lived with Allen's mother Irene C. Jirrels and then with her aunt Carin H. Brauer while Allen was serving time in prison for attempted rape in New York. He took her back after he got out of prison in 1972. Three days before her 1982 disappearance, Mindi told the police that Allen had been molesting her for the past five years. Child Protective Services (CPS) immediately placed her in the care of her stepmother, Patricia Ann Locke Chambers, who was divorcing Allen at the time. Then she disappeared.

No one reported Mindi missing until Mindi's aunt Carin did so on 17 Apr 1995. Her relatives stated she had a history of running away and they thought she had simply walked out of her life to escape her problems. CPS apparently dropped their investigation against her father within a short time. He died when his truck ran off the road and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle, near Goochland, VA on 13 Dec 1994.

Foul play is suspected in Mindi's disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.

Mindi has 6 surviving half-siblings: Misti, Aleca, Allen, Destiney, Kaylen, Sheena.
