She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in London Mills, the daughter of Hurbert and Frances (Sleeth) Cross. She was raised and educated in the London Mills area.
Alice married Russell R. Allen in Galesburg on March 1, 1947. He died Jan. 10, 1992.
Alice farmed with her husband for over 60 years and worked at Maytag before retiring in 1989.
Survivors include two nieces, Frances Colvin and Mary Partigianoni, both of Galesburg; a great-niece, Donna (Jim) Hawkins-Miller of Viola; great-nephews Tim Colvin of Galesburg, Mike Colvin of Las Vegas, Nev., Jeff Colvin of Springfield, and Doug (Lina) Hawkins of Oquawka; and eight great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Her parents, husband, two brothers, Donald Cross and Howard Cross, preceded her in death.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, with Rev Terry Johnston of the Village Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to OSF Hospice.
