Wife of Harold Ephraim Ellison

LAYTON -- Florence C. Ellison, age 94, died Monday, October 25, 1999, of natural causes. She was born February 2, 1905, in Mason City, Iowa, to John Bruce and Katherine B. Allen Cooley. She and Harold E. Ellison were married in Malad, Idaho, on April 1, 1923. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Her husband died July 17, 1987. She lived with her daughter Kathryn (Ralph) Firth in Layton the past eight years.

Other surviving children are Jean (Daryl) Warren of Denver; E. Peter Ellison of Layton; Edward A. "Ted" (Shana) Ellison of Fruit Heights. Another son, Captain John C. Ellison, USN, was missing in the Vietnam War; John's wife, Jean, lives in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Florence is survived by 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Isabel E. Adams of Palm Springs, California, and brother-in-law, David J. Ellison of Salt Lake City. Her only sister, Virginia Cooley Butler, preceded her in death.

Florence was an avid golfer and garnered many trophies while a member of Oakridge Country Club. She was a current member of Bay View Literary Club and had been a member of the American Federation of Women's Clubs. Florence and Harold lived in San Francisco for 18 years and managed the El Drisco Hotel. She served in various positions in the LDS Church auxiliaries and was a visiting teacher at the time of her death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 1999, at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday evening at the mortuary between 6-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
