Lucy was born in Soyland, West Yorkshire. Soyland is near Sowerby and Halifax. She was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Wilson) Sutcliffe. She was baptized at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Soyland on September 29, 1833. She and her family came to the United States on Ship Algonquin arriving in Philadelphia on May 10, 1834. She married Thomas Binns on June 26, 1853 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Manayunk, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lucy and Thomas' other children include: John (married Emma Wall), Eleanor (married Emile E Wolfe), Amanda (married August Schmidt, funeral director),and Sallie (married Samuel Ayers, lawyer). Lucy was hit by a car and died in Newark, New Jersey.
