He was married to Pauline R. Cuellar for 66 years. They had seven children together: Danny Cuellar; Marty Bailey and husband, Terry; Guadalupe Cuellar and wife, Denise; Antonia "Sis" Tajiri and husband, Daniel; Nick Cuellar and wife, Sabrina; and Maria Weigel and husband, Robbert. He was a grandfather to 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Priscilla Hall; grandsons Jeremy Tajiri and Guadalupe Cuellar Jr.; granddaughter Michelle Najara; and daughters-in-law Viola Cuellar and Zana Cuellar.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of seaman 1st class. He served on board the USS Howorth-DD592. After his discharge from the Navy he worked building highways all over the United States. He settled in La Luz in 1958 and worked for the city of Alamogordo from 1968- 1985 when he was medically retired.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Rosary will be recited by Paul Strunk at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. following the rosary with Father Carlos Espinoza as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Cuellar Family Cemetery. A reception will follow at the old La Luz school gym.
Pallbearers include Robert Cuellar, Filipe Abalos, P.J. Madrid, Adrian Cuellar, Chris Ford and Josh Cuellar.
Honorary pallbearers are Tim Cuellar, Jose Espinoza, Vincente Hall, Jacob Hall and Pete Madrid.
The family will greet friends at noon at the church before the rosary.
