A Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve "Jennie" Ardoin, the former Genevieve Pepitone, age 92, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal will be in the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. The Reverend Cedric Sonnier will celebrate the Mass.

Mrs. Ardoin, who was native of Arnaudville and lifelong resident of Opelousas, died on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Oaklane Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Eunice.
Jennie was a tireless wife, mother, and civic minded individual whose life works are as follows; she worked as a sales clerk at Dimmick's Auto Supply during World War II, was an Avon distributor for 42 years and during those years she trained numerous managers and was a member of the President's Club for 17 years. Jennie served as past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Bona Fidem Auxiliary, and the Home Demonstration. She was a member of the 82nd Airborne Ladies Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. As a longtime member of the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Jennie served as a Eucharistic Minister, as a member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Our Lady of Mercy Food Committee, and the St. Joseph's Day Committee. She faithfully practiced her lifelong ministry of food and clothing distribution for the needy. Mrs. Ardoin served as a Girl Scout leader for 18 years; she served on the nursing home committee, as a poll commissioner for over 40 years, and as a petition committee member to secure Opelousas General Hospital. Jennie served as a torchbearer for the 1996 Olympics and was awarded the Opelousas Distinguished Citizen of the Year award. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by hers.

Survivors include her son, Curtis James Ardoin, and his wife Lisa of Shreveport; daughters, Linda A. Meaux and husband Louis of Broussard, Lana Gail McCloy of Carencro, Deborah Ann Graul and husband Ed of Eunice, and Geraldine Marie Hillhouse and husband Frank of Oxford, Miss; fifteen grandchildren, Patty, Angie, Darren, Brandon, Christine, Suzette, Theresa, Tracey, Michael, Crystal, Adam, Danneel, Gino, Nicholas, and Lacey; 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Erray Ardoin; parents, Frank Pepitone, Sr. and Cosima Graffeo Pepitone; brothers, Thomas, Victor, Angelo, Frank, and Salvatore Pepitone; sisters, Lena Varisco and Anna Vitte; a grandchild, Ruthie Langlois, and a great grandchild.

LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, (2845 S. Union St, Opelousas, LA, 70570, (337)942-2638), has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
