***Ethel Bowles, 88, 612 E. 11th Street, Rushville, Indiana, died at 9:45 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 1990, in Millers Merry Manor, Rushville, Indiana.

She was born July 25, 1901 in Berea, Kentucky, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Etta (Reynolds) Hurley. She was a member of the Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and a resident of the Andersonville and Metamora communities for many years. She formerly worked at the Rex Manufacturing Company, Connersville, Indiana, and operated the Hilltop Inn in Metamora, Indiana from 1951-1957.

On November 6, 1917, she married Robert Lee Bowles, and he died July 26, 1982. She is survived by four sons, Samuel Park Bowles, Holland, Ohio; Allen Bowles, Laurel, Indiana; Merle Bowles, Rushille, Indiana, and Richard Gene Bowles, Oxford, Ohio; six daughters, Viola Rumley, Hamilton Ohio; Mrs. Claude (Dovie) Reed, Mancos, Colorado; Mrs. Troy (Sarah) Roard, Somerhio; Armetta McQueen, Laurel, Indiana; Jewell Croddy, New Point, Indiana, and Mrs. Herman (Betty Jo) Bentley, Sylvania, Ohio; 39 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, one daughter, two sisters, one half-brother and one half-sister.

The Rev. Kennety Bates will be in charge of the services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Stipps Hill Cemetery, Laurel, Indiana.

Visitation will be at the Moster and Cox Mortuary in Laurel, Indiana, after 6 p.m. Thursday, and at the church after noon on Friday.
