OBITUARY: Florida Austin Wood (1879-1946)
MRS. FLORIDA AUSTIN WOOD
Mrs. Florida Austin Wood, age 67, died in a local hospital yesterday morning, November 27, 1946 at 5:30 o’clock following two-weeks of serious illness and a long period of failing health.
She was born and reared in the Sandy Flat section and was a daughter of the late David Austin and Emma Rice Austin. For 25 years she had been a resident of the Dunean community and in recent years had been living with her daughter, Mrs. E.L. Crumley, 19 Taylor street, Dunean.
She was the wife of the late J.M. Wood, who died in 1935.
For a number of years she had been a member of Dunean Baptist Church and of the Mothers’ class. She was active in the work there as long as her health permitted.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four sons, W.S., P.E., L.F., and C.B. Wood; one sister, Mrs. Homer Avery; one brother, H.H. Austin; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Friday morning, November 29th at 11:00 o’clock at Dunean Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. A. Howard Wilson and Rev. C.O. Bell. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be C.A. Cox, Z.H. Kilpatrick, Robert Carroll, W.W. Jordan, C.H. Chiles, and W.V. Glenn.
Flower girls: Jerry Stairley, Barbara Shook, Annell Harvell, Jeanette Harvell, Jessie Lou Hale and Mary Ann Hale.
The body will be carried to the home of her son, W.S. Wood, 18 Allen street, Dunean mill, Thursday afternoon at 5:00 o’clock to await the service. Further announcements will be made by Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.
