[Click on photos for larger images to display.] Alice was the youngest daughter of Sarah and Charles Cann. I know little of her early life, but at age 29 she had a slight resemblance to the actress Jane Wyman. She worked for local ambulance companies for a while, and sometime in the 1980's married a Mr. Saddler. She was fond of classical music, opera in particular, and at one point was trying to get me to listen to a recording of an opera by Donizetti. She had also picked up or was taught the nuances of correct English grammer from/by her father, (an English instructor at Johns Hopkins) and in her presence I would occasionally find myself being corrected in this area. During one visit to her and her husband, she mentioned that the composer Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez was one that her father liked to call the "Orange Juice Concerto." A friend from her teen years, Anne, wrote, "Alice was my very good friend as a teenager and a very accomplished pianist. I was the visual artist, sort of. She loved opera and classical music. She was very supportive even when I was down and out. She was very important in my life. Some how, I made it." My understanding is that she passed away from a heart attack, and her remains were cremated. Services were held at a funeral home on York Rd. in Baltimore City. Her remains were buried in the Cann family burial plots in Druid Ridge Cemetery.
