The son of Abraham and Rachel (Hertzog), Andrew came to St. Louis in 1818, and joined his brother Christian Wilt in business in February of 1819 under the firm style of "Christian and Andrew Wilt."

Andrew brought out with him their two sisters, Rachel and Juliana Wilt. The first became the wife of Charles S. Hempstead, Esq., in 1819, and died in Oct., 1823. The other died unmarried, Sept. 27, 1824.
