Ronald Ray Copeland, 62, of Phenix City, Alabama, died Friday May 11, 2012 at his home. Memorial services will be held 1:00pm EST Tuesday May 15th at Cascade Hills Church in Columbus, Georgia, with the Reverends Bill Purvis and Gene Boyd officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Copeland was born June 3, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa, son of the late Clyde Copeland and Nellie Smith Copeland. Mr. Copeland graduated from East High School in Des Moines and Columbus College in Columbus, GA.
He served his country honorably for eight years with the U.S. Army Special Forces serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Columbus Police Department after 26 years of service. Currently, Mr. Copeland was serving as an instructor with the West Georgia Police Academy. He was a member of the Cascade Hills Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, an usher, a life group instructor and prayer partner. Other than his parents Mr. Copeland is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Stever.

Survivors include his wife, Debby Copeland of Phenix City, children, Bonnie and husband Chris Smith of Valley, AL., Matt Copeland of Villa Rica, GA., Kelsey Copeland and Kadie Copeland of Phenix City, brothers, Darrell Stewart of Dawsonville, GA., Norman and wife Marie Stewart of Lenexa, KS., grandson, Cedric Smith, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
