Missouri Governor. He attended St. Louis University, earning a law degree in 1913, established a private law practice, was City Attorney of Lebanon, Missouri and as Laclede County prosecuting attorney. Entering politics, he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives, (1922-24) and president of the Missouri State Senate, (1924-44). In 1944, he was elected as a Democratic the 41st Governor of Missouri, serving until 1949 and was reelected as the 43rd Governor of Missouri, serving (1953-57). After completing his final term, he live in retirement until death at age 70 in Lebanon, Missouri.
