Carl Gordon Dies of Heart Attack
Services for Carl Gordon, night policeman in Okolona were held at 2 pm, Monday in First Baptist Church with the Revs. James A Ruffin and Allison Bell officiating. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park. He was 59.
Mr. Gordon died at 9:30 pm, Saturday after suffering a heart attack while on duty. He had just gone down the incline that leads to the G M & O Railroad tracks on East Main Street when he became ill. His car rolled to a stop against a tree and he received no bodily injury. He was pronounced dead shortly after he was carried to Okolona Community Hospital.
He had been in the hospital for treatment of a heart condition about two weeks ago.
Mr. Gordon, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander H Gordon, was born in Houston and resided there until moving to Okolona 28 years ago. He operated a service station before joining the Okolona police department four years ago. He was a Baptist.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Louise Thompson Gordon; two sons, Ted of Lexington, Tenn., and Jack of Shannon; a daughter, Mrs. Charlie Mitchell of Aberdeen; two sisters, Mrs. Calvin Lancaster of Houston and Mrs. Earl Aron of Houlka; and four grandchildren.
He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Leroy Harrelson of Houston.
