FORT WORTH -- Joyce Wood Stokes, 60, passed from this life to the next with her son by her side Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2004, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Graveside service: At Joyce's request, private graveside service for the family will be Wednesday at her resting place in Laurel Land Memorial Park on Crowley Road in Fort Worth.

Memorials: Tarrant County Humane Society.

Joyce was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Nashville, Tenn., and resided in Fort Worth and Bedford for 48 years. She was employed for many years with First National Bank of Fort Worth. She and her husband then ventured into their own business, in which she remained active until the last few months.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Peggy Saunders, in 1981 and 1987, respectively.

Survivors: Husband, Lonnie Stokes of Bedford; son, Russell Wood of Fort Worth; stepchildren, Kimberly Huges of Fort Worth and Ryan Stokes of Austin; sister, Linda Hall of Fort Worth; niece, Tina Winsett Sager of Frisco; nephew, Monte Winsett of Fort Worth; aunts and uncles in Nashville, Tenn., and surrounding area; and special cat companions, Samantha and Damon.
