Sadie Catherine Shoemaker, 94, of Romney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at
Hampshire Center, Romney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 11, 1918, in Hampshire County, she was the daughter of the late John
Elburn and Leona Belle Wratchford Kesner. Also preceding her in death were her
husband of 59 years, Edward Woodrow Shoemaker on Jan. 19, 1999; a daughter,
Leanna Louise Shoemaker; eight brothers and two sisters. She was the last member
of her immediate family.
She retired from the HP Store in Romney. She was a faithful member of the Romney
Church of the Brethren and taught the adult Sunday school class for many years.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Surviving are three sons, John Edward Shoemaker and wife Rachel and James
Woodrow Shoemaker and wife Bonnie, all of Romney; and Kenneth Brown Shoemaker
and wife Patricia, Old Fields; five grandchildren, Tim Shoemaker, Karen Heare,
Kenneth Shoemaker, Sandra Simon and Michael Shoemaker; six great-grandchildren;
four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Wednesday,
Jan. 16, from 6-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 17, at 11
a.m. with pastor Brian Moreland officiating.
Interment will be at Baldwin Cemetery, Moorefield.
