Most Rev. John B. Pitaval D.D. - Fifth Archbishop of Santa Fe
Born February 10, 1858 in St. Genis-Terrenoire, France; ordained December 24, 1881; appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Santa Fe May 15, 1902; consecrated Titular Bishop of Sora and Auxiliary Bishop of Santa Fe July 25, 1902; promoted Archbishop of Santa Fe January 3, 1909; resigned February 1918; appointed Titular Archbishop of Amida July 29, 1918; died May 23, 1928 in Denver, Colorado.
Alvin Sparby attended Waldorf College at Forest City, Iowa, and Luther College at Decorah working for his teacher's certificate. After graduation, unable to fin a teaching position, he joined the Iowa Highway Patrol as a patrolman. In 1942, under a leave of absence from the Patrol, he joined the Army Air Force where he served the next four years "...in Africa, Sicily, Italy and Trinidad." Following the war and discharge, he married Helen Suby of Fertile, Iowa, and returned to duties as a trooper on the Patrol. Following 32 years of service, Alvin retired as a Lieutenant, and now works for the Department of Transportation as a hearing officer. Their children are Debra and Ronald.
He is buried at Mount Olivet, Denver, Colorado [thanks to contributor #47081081].
