The Spokesman Review (Spokane, Wash.), 30 March 1999, p. D5: "Chester Chastek — Spokane — Funeral Mass for Chester Chastek, 83, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A 75-year Spokane resident, Mr. Chastek, died Saturday. he was born in Burke, Idaho. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1934 and from Gonzaga University in 1938 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. In 1940 he graduated from Gonzaga Law School. Mr. Chastek served four years as deputy prosecuting attorney for Spokane County before entering into private practice. he was a partner in the firm of Trezona, Chastek, Lorenz and Parry for 25 years. He worked as an officer for the Pack River Co. for many years after leaving private practice. He taught at the Gonzaga Law School for 15 years and served as a member of the Gonzaga board of regents. In 1989 he received the distinguished alumni award from Gonzaga University. He was a member of the Washington State and American Bar Associations, Timber Products Manufacturing Association, Goodwill Industries, Junior Achievement, Rotary International and Spokane Valley Rotary Clubs, and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Catherine; six children, Joyce Esposito, Laurence Chastek, Michael Chastek, Patrick Chastek, Thomas Chastek and Gary Chastek; a brother, Richard Chastek, and a sister, Bernice Larson; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Charities, P.O. Box 1453, Spokane, WA 99210."
