Actor. He was a British character performer best known for appearing in numerous Universal horror films of the 1940s. He began his career performing in Shakespearean plays on the English stage and made his American big screen debut in "Torture Ship" (1939). He became a regular supporting player for Universal Pictures, where he appeared in films such as "Ghost Ship" (1943), "The Invisible Man's Revenge" (1944), "House of Dracula" (1945), "Terror by Night" (1946) and "Bedlam" (1946). He also had on the television series "Dick Tracy", "Boston Blackie", "Cavalcade America", G.E. True Theatre" and "TV's Readers Digest". He died of cirrhosis of the liver at age 43.
